Samsung Galaxy S5, Black 16GB

The juiciest details on the Galaxy S5 to date have come from Sammobile, which reported that Samsung’s high-end Android smartphones will be trading in their plastic cases for metal. According to the report, the metal version of the Galaxy S5 will cost around €800. There will still be a lower-cost plastic model, Sammobile said, which will go for about €650. It isn’t clear if the metal and plastic versions of the device will bear different names, such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The screen resolution of the new Galaxy S smartphones are also set to be pushed beyond the realm of the reasonable into Quad High Definition (QHD) territory. Sammobile said it was still unclear on details such as the size of the battery that is meant to power this monstrosity, but a report on PhoneArena suggested that the Galaxy S5 would have a new type of 2,900mAh Lithium-Ion battery. The specifications that Sammobile reports as “confirmed” include: Display: QHD (2,560×1,440) Super AMOLED; Processor: Exynos 6 / Snapdragon 805 processor Rear camera: 16 Megapixel; Operating system: Android 4.4 Kit-Kat; and Plastic and metal versions. With the Galaxy S4, Samsung launched models that ran on its own Exynos processor, as well as an LTE-capable model that used Snapdragon chips from Qualcomm. Sammobile said that they have been told that LTE is no longer a problem for the new Exynos 6 processor, and speculated that Samsung might use Qualcomm’s processor in the lower-cost plastic version of the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 is expected to be announced and launched around March/April 2014, with Bloomberg placing a Samsung executive on record confirming the launch window.
